Didier Gentilhomme, petit-fils de vignerons du Val de Loire, était somme toute peu attiré par les travaux viticoles lorsqu'il était enfant. Pourtant, les hommes et les paysages de la vigne allaient devenir sa passion et sa raison de voyager. À partir de 1994, en organisant des expositions consacrées à la viticulture de l'Hexagone dans les Alliances françaises de pays lointains, il découvre la présence multiforme de la vigne dans ces contrées. Il se fait alors " routard " du vin, appareil photo en bandoulière. Au rythme du calendrier de la vigne, de la plantation à la taille des ceps et des vendanges au chai, Par monts et par vignes révèle un monde insoupçonné. De l'exotisme dans les paysages, des hommes et des femmes nombreux, aux gestes semblables et beaux, qui semblent former une communauté de travailleurs de la vigne. Égypte, Kenya, Madagascar, Afrique du Sud, États-Unis, Argentine, Chine, Australie, Inde, Ouzbékistan, Polynésie... Les vignobles du monde photographiés traduisent toute la diversité des cultures où la vigne s'enracine. Par ses légendes, Michel Creignou y ajoute son regard attachant de découvreur de vin
